Proposal for final project

Everyday, there are millions of plastic tableware are being used only once and threw in the trash. This is such a waste and also a pollution to the environment because the plastic material is very hard to be decomposed by the soil. So one of the ways to get rid of these plastic plates is dumping them into the ocean. As a matter of fact, Scientists at Ghent University in Belgium recently calculated that shellfish lovers are eating up to 11,000 plastic fragments in their seafood each year. We absorb fewer than 1%, but they will still accumulate in the body over time. Thus, basically we are eating what we threw away through the food chain cycle. 


 My idea for the final project is to create a kind of tableware that not only can be used but also can be consumed such that we can avoid wasting materials and be friendly to the environment. The tableware that i am going to create can make the meal more visually compelling thus make people have more appetite when they are eating. I am going to make tableware out of vegetables, fruits and cookies then cover them with white chocolate so they look like the real ones. Since the tableware is  made by different kinds of food, they are both edible and they can also be easily decomposed.

Nowadays, environment protection is a very popular topic that everyone discusses. However, not many people actually have the awareness to contribute to the protection of environment. When the media draw attention to the pollution made by heavy industries, people don't pay enough attention to the huge impact that our daily activities on environment. Thus, i hope that project could inspire people to raise their awareness to contribute to the environment through daily activities.
